Elizabeth Mwangi
Founder & CEO, Gwiji for Women
Elizabeth Mwangi is the Founder & CEO of Gwiji for Women, a social enterprise empowering low-income women in Kenya through dignified work opportunities in the informal cleaning sector. Combining vocational upskilling with technology-driven employment access, their in-person training is designed to overcome barriers posed by limited education and low-level skillsets. To date, Gwiji has helped over 3,000 women access dignified, fairly paid work.
Born and raised in the slums of Nairobi Elizabeth witnessed her mother struggle to earn a living through informal cleaning work, often returning home empty-handed. That image inspired her to create Gwiji as a way to uplift women from similar backgrounds, and elevate informal labour into respected, dignified employment that sustains families.
