Muhammad Abdul-Hadi is the visionary Founder of Down North Pizza and North Star Collective, a purpose-driven hospitality group redefining the intersection of food, culture, and social impact. At North Down Pizza, they serve up critically acclaimed Detroit-style pies while providing fair-wage employment and second chances to formerly incarcerated individuals. Through the Collective, Abdul-Hadi has expanded with Out West, a café and cultural hub in West Philadelphia, and the Down North Foundation, which advances reentry support and community development.

His initiatives include the Growing Freedom Project, a holistic program cultivating food security, healing, and empowerment across Philadelphia. A 2024 James Beard Leadership Award honoree, Muhammad is also the author of We the Pizza: Salngin’ Pies and Savin’ Lives (Penguin Random House, 2025), a cookbook blending recipes with the social mission behind his work.
