Dr Mariana Matus is the Co-Founder and CEO of Biobot Analytics, a startup that aims to help governments tackle the opioid crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic by analysing sewage samples.
Inspired by the potential of wastewater epidemiology, Biobot Analytics is the first company in the world to commercialise data from sewage. After winning multiple entrepreneurship competitions at MIT, including a place in the DeltaV and DesignX accelerators, Biobot Analytics completed the Y Combinator accelerator in San Francisco. Headquartered in the Boston area, Bibot Analytics aim to extend our wastewater epidemiology platform across all five continents. Biobot is currently analysing wastewater from 150 treatment plants in 30 US states.
Mariana holds a BSc in Genomics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, an MSc in Biotechnology from Wageningen University in The Netherlands, and a PhD in Computational and Systems Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
