Ghirmay Abraham was born in Eritrea. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Asmara, before starting work in the renewable energy sector. In 2011, he left Eritrea for South Sudan where he started Aptech Africa with only a small investment. The war in South Sudan came and went in 2013, during which time Aptech gained a reputation for quality project delivery under the most difficult circumstances. Under Ghirmay’s leadership of working to bring electricity and water to people across Africa, Aptech has grown to be a multinational business operating in seven African countries.
