Divya is Founder of Baeru, an initiative working to make India’s coastal communities active participants in climate action through the mitigation of ocean plastic pollution and the development of a circular economy. A Northwestern University alumna and former Google employee, she seamlessly merges design, technology, and ocean-focused advocacy. Garnering multiple UN Women Leadership Awards, her dedication lies in ocean plastics mitigation and coastal livelihoods.
At the UN Water Conference 2023 in New York, she emphasised the importance of ocean sustainability and circular economy. Collaborating with Karnataka’s government, Baeru leads India’s first coastal waste management facility with a payback model benefitting women working in waste while addressing ocean bound plastics.
