A scientist by training, Ishani has a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Brown University. Her dissertation was on developing mathematical models to solve astrophysics problems. Ishani did her post-doctoral studies at University of Oxford and St.Thomas Hospital in London where she collaborated with cardiac surgeons on mathematical algorithms to build virtual human hearts to make cardiac surgeries more efficient. She was later a scientist at GE research working in the Aerospace Lab.
As a scientist Ishani became aware of how conscious and unconscious biases affect one’s career irrespective of their skills and qualifications. Ishani founded Serein to make the workplace safe and equitable for all. Serein now uses science and technology to implement Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in companies, impacting over 500,000 people in over 20 countries.
Ishani recently received the Cartier Award, which recognizes impact entrepreneurs globally, for her impactful work promoting equality and safety for minorities.
