Chad Robertson is a social entrepreneur from Cape Town and currently the Co-Founder and CEO of Regenize, a recycling solution that’s on a mission to make recycling more accessible, inclusive and rewarding.
Regenize provides a freemium recycling collection service that integrates informal waste collectors to perform the collections by providing them with uniforms, fossil-fuel-free recycling tricycles, mobile devices, access to clean recyclables and a decentralised recycling hub. They also assist them with getting bank cards, providing training on technology and customer service, getting a stable income, and access to PPE and micro-loans. Furthermore, all residents earn a virtual currency, Remali, each time they recycle. Remali can then be redeemed for various rewards, such as airtime, data and grocery vouchers. Alternatively, they can use a QR code to access their Remali at a local shop in their community.
Chad has a background in software development and is a student at the University of Cape Town – Graduate School of Business, completing his MPhil in Inclusive Innovation, focusing on the informal waste sector.
